The artisanship behind this photo was the simple belief that girlhood is synonymous with princesses. Some may deny this divine nature. However, as a mother and photographer, I see this displayed time and again. I know my young daughter's youthfulness is ever fleeting. One would never be able to escape parenthood in the early years without the ubiquitous statement, "It goes so fast." To what are they referring? The dreams of childhood. Older parents, empty nesters, retirees: they are not speaking with that far off look in their eyes about the dirty diapers and the mountains of laundry in that sentiment. They are referring to the energetic dreams of their once young ones. In this case, one simply has to put a girl in a dress and count the seconds until she twirls, soaking up the regal moment, evoking approval, proclaiming beauty.
I wanted to capture a moment that was not bound by culture, where the design of the room, the fabrics, the props--nothing would deter from the message. This could be any girl, in any time period. I wanted to keep the image dreamy and noisy. It has the mark of the Creator, and I aimed to keep it ethereal.
I took this photo and risked pushing my ISO higher than ever. There was a single light on the subject and it was taken with my Nikon d700 and the 24-70mm.
